Research & Development

Centre of Excellence (COE)

Objectives

  • To encourage researchers and scientists for research activities in emerging area of Science & Technology.
  • To create the state of art facilities in Universities/Institutions for research activities.
  • Synthesis, characterization, identification of applications & products, development of technology, Technology transfer and dissemination.
  • Collaboration with National and International R & D Institutions.
  • Creating competitive research environment.

To strengthened Research and Development activities in the State in some identified thrust areas and provide State of art facility/infrastructure to the Institute/University Department having core competence in the related areas/fields the COE’s are set up. Emerging areas of Science and Technology are identified by GUJCOST/Govt. of Gujarat by time to time.

To set up a Centre at suitable institute/department in the State, proposals are invited in the specified format. Purchase of permanent equipments and recurring expenditure are provided under the scheme. Proposal should focus on any one subject of concern field and institute/Department may take up Research/Development in that proposed areas. The amount of research grant depends on the actual proposal and recommendation of the expert committee. Presently nanotechnology has been identified as emerging area for such support.

Following Projects have been financially supported to create Centre of Excellence :

797 VA Computrance (CENNP-GUJCOST)These centres have become hub of resources and manpower training and guiding industries in the area of nanotechnology in the state. Govt. of India agencies has also sanctioned various projects for strengthening R &D activities in these centres.

Out of sponsored six COE projects, five projects are completed with their targeted research outcomes at Bhavnagar University, Saurashtra University, Gujarat University, M.S.University of Baroda and Sardar Patel University. The final project reports have been submitted by above said universities to this office. GUJCOST has prepared compiled reports of above projects mentioning List of publications, Instrument purchased, Seminar/symposia organized, Educational kits/CD's etc developed, Linkages developed, Additional projects sponsored by other agencies, Manpower trained and other important achievements of the projects.
