Popularization of Science

The Rural IT Quiz is an initiative by Tata Consultancy Services in partnership with the Department of IT, BT, Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka. The program started in the year 2000 and has reached over 13 million students till date. The quiz has earned an entry in the Limca Book of Records as the first IT Quiz for rural students in India. The Rural IT Quiz which had a successful run in Karnataka for over a decade, has expanded its footprint to other States - Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh besides Karnataka since 2011.

GUJCOST coordinate and organize the Rural IT Quiz in Gujarat. The department of IT, BT, and S&T, Government of Karnataka in association with Tata Consultancy Services is announced the National Rural IT Quiz 2017 for school students in Gujarat

Each School in Science Club will participate at District Level. Ten teams from each district will participate in State level. A brief about the program and draft schedule is enclosed herewith for kind perusal.

Rural IT Quiz -2017

Gujarat Council on science and Technology (GUJCOST) has organized the State Level Rural IT Quiz 2017 programme on 26th September, 2017 at LDRP Campus, Gandhinagar.

About 1000 participants including students, escort teachers and district coordinators from 33 districts of the State has participated in State level programme.

Over 660 students from Std. VIII to XII, from 33 districts of Gujarat were selected at district level competition to participate in the state level competitions held at Gandhinagar on 26th September. In addition, Teachers and Coordinators of Community Science Centres were also invited to witness the program.

Total of 844 schools with 4446 students (2852 boys and 1594 girls), 692 teachers participated in 33 districts in the state which was organized by the respective CSCs during July / August 2017. Out of this, 660 students (544 boys and 116 girls), 330 escort teachers and 33 district coordinators has participated in the State Level National Rural IT Quiz programme.

The animation based quiz format had the following three segments – Augmented Tech, Humanised Big Data and On Demand Tech. Each of the rounds tested the students spectrum of knowledge in the IT sphere. After a preliminary written round, six teams qualified on stage for the final round. The quiz witnessed an intense battle of minds and finally – Hardik M Modi and Parth Dhulia from SMJCKR Higher Secondary School, Bhavnagar emerged Winners and Ayush Zaveri and Mann Patel, Bhagwati International Public School, Patan were the Runners-up.

Dr. Shubhash Soni, Joint Secretary, Dept. of Science and Technology, Gandhinagar and Shri S. Vishwanathan, Tata Consultancy Services, Gandhinagar distributed the prizes. The winners received a TCS educational scholarship of Rs 10,000/- and the runners-up Rs 7,000/- besides other prizes from TCS. All the finalists also received an array of prizes from TCS. All participants were also given certificates and a quiz book, with Teachers receiving a special recognition certificate.
