Rural IT Quiz -2019

Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Vidyamandir, Jamnagar School wins TCS’Rural IT Quiz Gujarat State Finals

The Gujarat State Finals of the Rural IT Quiz program conducted on 17th September at the Townhall , Gandhinagar saw an overwhelming response with students and teachers from 33 districts of Gujarat participating in the program.

The Rural IT Quiz programme is conceptualized and organized by Tata Consultancy Services in association with the Dept. of IT, BT and Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka. The program is conducted across the States of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Karnataka.

The Gujarat Council on Science & Technology (GUJCOST), working under the aegis of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Gujarat coordinated the programme through its Community Science Centre network across the state. About 700 students from Std. VIII to XII, from 30 districts of Gujarat were selected at district level competition to participate in the state level competitions held at Gandhinagar on 17th September. In addition, Teachers and Coordinators of Community Science Centres were also invited to witness the program.

After a preliminary written round, six teams qualified for the on-stage final round. The Finals had an animation-based format with five segments – Byte Link, Byte Pixel, Byte Jumble, Byte Connect and Byte Waves – which tested students’ knowledge in the IT sphere, and prompted them to think laterally.

  • Winners: Manav Gondalia and Kavan Gondaliya from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Vidyamandir, Jamnagar
  • Runners-up: Divyansh Verma and Bishesh Bhattacharya from Amrit Vidhyalaya, Panchmahal

The prizes to the winners was distributed by Dr. Narottam Sahoo, Advisor and Member Secretary, GUJCOST and Mrs. Namrata Somani, TCS, Ahmedabad. The Winners received a TCS educational scholarship of Rs 10,000 and the runners-up, Rs 7,000, besides other prizes. Other finalists also received prizes from TCS. All participants received certificates and a quiz book, while the teachers received a special recognition certificate.

The State Winners will now participate in the National Finals to be held at Bangalore during November. Prizes at the National level include educational scholarships of Rs 1,00,000 for the winners, and Rs 50,000 for the runners up. In addition, for each of the teams entering the Finals, TCS will sponsor the air travel and stay in Bengaluru for two students and an accompanying teacher.

TCS has been organizing the Rural IT Quiz since 2000 in association with the Department of IT, BT and Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka, to enhance IT awareness amongst students from smaller towns and districts across six states in India, and keep them abreast with the latest developments in the world of technology. This program has reached over 15 million students till date.
