District Science Center
The basic aim of District Science Center is to provide a creative platform to communicate and popularize Science & Technology in cities, urban and rural areas in the district, for the benefit of students in particular and the public in general by organizing exhibitions, seminars, popular science lectures, along with a host of other activities on S&T.
It would also supplement formal science education in schools and colleges and organize various out of School S&T related educational activities to foster a spirit of scientific inquiry and creativity among the students.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of community science centres are as following:
- To inculcate scientific temper among the people and to generate and sustain a high level of general scientific awareness in the society, and to supplement science education in schools and colleges to foster a spirit of scientific enquiry among the students.
- To portray / communicate the growth of S&T and its applications in improving the quality of life through exhibitions, seminars, popular lectures, science camps and a host of other activities / programmes.
- To communicate / popularize science and technology in cities, urban and rural areas for the benefit of students and the common man.
- To act
- As an interface between S&T and society
- As a Resource-cum-facility centre for Community Science Centres of the district
- As a Resource-cum-facility centre for the students & teachers of the district
- As an Awareness-cum-facilitation center for the public
- As a district nodal institution while organizing State-wide / country-wide S&T Communication programmes
- As an interface with GUJCOST, Gujarat Science City, Regional Science Museums and Community Science Centres of the State
- To collect, restore and preserve important historical objects, which represent landmarks in the development of science, technology and industry.
- To design, develop and fabricate science museum exhibits, demonstration equipment and teaching / learning aids for science education and popularization.
- To supplement formal science education in schools and colleges through out-of-school educational activities to foster a spirit of scientific enquiry and creativity among the students.
- To organize training programs for science teachers/students/young entrepreneurs/technicians/ handicapped/housewives and others on specific aspects of science, technology and industry.
- To render assistance to universities, technical institutions, museums, schools and colleges and / or other bodies in planning and organizing science museums and in training of personnel for museum profession.
