Turning Innovation into Impact

IP Commercialisation is the process of taking a protected idea, invention, or technology out of the lab and into the market - transforming intellectual property into real-world products, services, and economic value. It involves evaluating a technology's readiness, understanding its market potential, and connecting it with the right partners, licensees, or investors who can carry it forward to commercial success.

Through its Intellectual Property Facilitation Centre (IPFC), the Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST) facilitates Technology Commercialisation Support to help innovators across Gujarat translate promising technologies into market-ready solutions. This initiative bridges the critical gap between innovation, technology development, and commercialisation by offering expert assessment and strategic guidance at every stage of an innovator's journey — from a validated idea and protected IP to a technology that is ready for industry adoption, licensing, or transfer.

Who Can Apply

This support is open to a wide spectrum of innovators across Gujarat, including:
  • Students and student innovators
  • Faculty members and researchers
  • Startups
  • Universities and higher educational institutions
  • Grassroot innovators and technology developers

Our Objectives

  • Facilitate scientific and commercial evaluation of innovative technologies
  • Help innovators understand the true commercialisation potential of their work
  • Enable structured Technology Readiness Level (TRL) assessment and systems engineering guidance
  • Assist innovators with technology valuation and licensing strategy
  • Promote technology transfer and industry partnerships
  • Strengthen Gujarat's broader innovation ecosystem by improving commercialisation outcomes

How Technologies Are Assessed

Every technology submitted for support undergoes a structured, expert-led assessment covering:
  • Technology Readiness Level (TRL): An evidence-based, panel-driven evaluation of how mature the technology is -from basic principles and proof-of-concept, through prototype demonstration, to a fully proven and deployable system.
  • Technical Feasibility: A review of the technology's underlying science, engineering, and functional viability.
  • Market Potential: An assessment of demand, application areas, and commercial viability.
  • Commercialisation Prospects: Evaluation of licensing opportunities, industry fit, and pathways to market adoption.

The TRL assessment follows a rigorous, panel-based methodology involving the Principal Investigator/inventor, a departmental technical expert, and the institute's IP Cell/Incubation Centre. Levels are assessed step-by-step - a level is only considered "met" when supported by documented evidence - giving innovators a credible, evidence-backed picture of where their technology stands and what remains to reach the next milestone.

Support Available

Depending on the nature and maturity of a technology, innovators can avail one or more of the following forms of support:
  • TRL Assessment - A structured evaluation of technology maturity against standard TRL criteria, supported by documented evidence.
  • TRL Improvement Support - Guidance and systems engineering support to help technologies progress to higher readiness levels.
  • Techno-Feasibility Assessment -In-depth review of the technical soundness and practical viability of the innovation.
  • Market Survey - Research into market demand, target segments, and competitive landscape.
  • Technology Transfer / Commercialisation Support - Assistance with licensing strategy, industry partnerships, and pathways to market adoption.

Expected Outcomes

Through this initiative, GUJCOST aims to:
  • Support the commercialisation of promising technologies developed across Gujarat
  • Improve technology maturity through structured TRL assessment
  • Provide innovators with credible technical and commercial assessment reports
  • Increase opportunities for technology licensing and transfer
  • Strengthen academia - industry collaboration
  • Contribute to the development of commercially viable technologies that generate economic and societal impact

Empowering Innovators, End to End

IP Commercialisation support empowers innovators to move beyond ideas and IP protection towards successful market adoption. By combining expert technical evaluation with market and commercialisation guidance, GUJCOST's IPFC helps ensure that Gujarat's research and innovation ecosystem doesn't just generate great ideas - it turns them into technologies that reach the people and industries that need them.

That's the journey we help you make - from product to market.
